Many of you need some words of encouragement as you work towards living a more organized life. Today’s column is a compilation of quotes I have used to inspire my clients. Hopefully, they’ll motivate you to take action too.

“Look at life through the windshield, not the rear-view mirror.” ~Byrd Baggett

You are holding onto things that represent your past. Unfortunately, these things can be in the way of you reaching new goals. Surround yourself with the things that support your future plans. Let go of things that are keeping you from your dreams and life’s simple pleasures.

Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day.” ~Jim Rohn

Organize everyday, even if you can only spend 15-minutes on a project. Organize one drawer, clear off your kitchen table or clean out your car.

“Don’t put it down, put it away.”

Post this one near the door you and your family come into from outside. When you have an armload of things you’re bringing in, try putting them away or close to where they belong, instead of dropping them on the first flat surface you get to.

“Courage is the decision to place your dreams above your fears.”

Some of you delay organizing because you let fear paralyze you. Stay focused on your goals. If you do what you fear, fear goes away.

It’s not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness.”

If you’re not displaying it or using it, then let it go. Stuffing things in boxes and stashing them all over your home is not making you happy.

“Sometimes you just have to take a leap and build your wings on the way down.” ~Kobi Yamada

Organizing and ‘letting go’ gets easier as you work through the process. You’ll gain confidence as your life becomes less hectic and you start doing what you enjoy.

“Freedom…is the act of releasing ourselves from the bondage of that which keeps us from living the life we were meant to live.” ~Kelli Wilson

Even the stuff you loved and once needed can keep you from living your true potential. Donate it to someone else who can use it.

“If you want to feel rich, count all the things you have that money can’t buy.”

True happiness is rarely found in things. Spending time with those you love and enjoying experiences create lasting happiness.

“Get rid of things, or you’ll spend your whole life tidying up.” ~Marguerite Duras

Are you constantly rearranging and moving your things from room to room? You have more important things to do with your time.

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”~Arthur Ashe

Start with any space in your home. You don’t need expensive organizing products. Use the boxes, baskets, plastic containers and furniture you already have. Stay focused, work hard and make a difference.

Jot down any of those that resonated with you.  Post them in the room where you plan to start. And remember…

“You won’t feel more like doing it tomorrow.”  ~Timothy Pychyl, so start organizing now.
